JACKSONVILLE, FL / ACCESS Newswire / June 22, 2026 / Priority Tire has launched a scholarship competition with three awards totaling $10,000 for students who can solve one of the deadliest road problems: distracted driving.
The Safe Roads, Strong Futures Scholarship invites undergraduate and high school students to submit essays analyzing how modern technology affects driver attention and proposing practical solutions to reduce distractions behind the wheel.
“Young drivers understand the pull of technology behind the wheel because they experience it firsthand,” said Dimitri Chernyak, President of Priority Tire. “That lived experience, combined with fresh thinking, is exactly what we need to tackle this problem.“
Students who believe they can solve this problem can compete for three awards:
-
First place: $5,000
-
Second place: $3,000
-
Third place: $2,000
Submitted essays on this topic must be 500-700 words and will be evaluated based on three criteria: writing quality, information accuracy, and originality.
Distracted driving is one of the biggest road safety problems, causing thousands of crashes and fatalities annually. Young drivers are disproportionately impacted, but their experience navigating a technology-saturated world makes them uniquely qualified to propose effective solutions.
Essays should analyze current trends in distracted driving, examine how technology impacts driver behavior, and propose actionable strategies to reduce distractions on American roads.
“We’re looking for a unique perspective that combines research and practical thinking, designed for real-world problems,” Dimitri Chernyak said. “After all, the best solutions are the ones that could actually work on American roads, and not just in theory.“
Applications are now open and must be submitted digitally by December 1, 2026, through the Priority Tire Scholarship page. Additional topics are available for students interested in earning scholarship funding through different road safety challenges.
